T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 21

Five braved the -11 degree temperature to gather at the Allen Center and practice a pleasant 37 minute form. We had one second semester University student and one first session Y student, but the other three were old hands, as the saying goes. - We're off this weekend due to lack of scheduling ability, but we'll see about Monday if and when it gets here.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 20

Five gathered this morning to participate in a 37 minute form. The flow seemed better today, but my mind kept wandering and thus I started to make a couple mistakes. Oh well. Tomorrow will be better.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 19

Six gathered for a 38 minute form today in the Allen center, two of which were "regular" University students. It was great to see them coming to such an early morning meeting. I hope it continues.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 18

Four gathered for a 34 minute form in the Allen Center this chilly Tuesday morning. The form was nice. I felt good throughout and after as well. More tomorrow, I hope.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 17

Seven gathered in the Allen Center today for a very pleasant 36 minute form. It was borderline crowded though really there was room for at least two more before creative spacing would have been needed.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 16

Four gathered in HEC 154 today for a 32 three-part set on a fairly unpleasant floor. It was, by no means, as unpleasant as the floor in the fitness studio at the YMCA (unpleasant for T'ai Chi practice, anyway) but it still presented an excessive frictional coefficient. There were some good questions today, which was nice from the norm, but the dance studio's energy is a little fast and the floor is a little unforgiving. I hope we can get back into 110 in the near future.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 15

Four gathered for a "swift" 35 minute form. The other Mary from my evening T'ai Chi class decided to stop by this morning. She was able to follow along fairly well though obviously things like Fair Lady Works at Shuttles and a number of the kicks gave her pause. Still, it was nice to have her stop in. - I also found out that Nancy is well, just busy.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 14

The standard three gathered for a pleasant 39 minute set this morning. My breathing is getting better.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 13

The standard three gathered for a pleasant 37 minute set this morning. We were compelled to move just a touch less slowly than yesterday as there was a planned power outage in the Allen Center at 7:30 AM. We were just meandering down the stairs when the power went out. According to the wall clock, they were a minute early, but close enough for government work. ;-)

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 12

The standard three plus Sarah gathered for a pleasant 43 minute set. My nose continues to complain slightly from a recent bout with the sniffles, but it's feeling much better after the set. Viva T'ai Chi. ;-)

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 11

The standard three gathered in HEC 110 for a slow-feeling 42 minute set. I felt like my breathing and flow was very nice today, but both Charlie and I thought it would have been longer based on the feel. Still, 42 minutes is pretty good for something only a handful of months ago was taking us 27 minutes. We both passed on staff and since I'm feeling again just a tiny bit under the weather, we called it and went our merry ways.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 10

Two crawled from their beds to enjoy a 32 minute form this morning. It seemed a bit fast for me, but my body seemed to like it.

January 14, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 9

The standard three returned for a 39 minute set this morning. My stretch appears to be improving to some degree. Nothing else overly different.

January 13, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 8

The (again?) standard three gathered for a pleasant 38 minute set. Whatever was afflicting me from yesterday appears to have passed with only the palest shadow remaining.

January 12, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 7

I couldn't be there today, but Charlie did a very nice 40 minute solo form today. I was apparently coming down with something yesterday all ready which became notably unpleasant Monday evening.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 6

(We did not meet on Sunday as there was no available building until about 3:00 PM.)

The formerly standard three gathered for a nice 35 minute set this morning. I admit I had some issues, but not with the form so much as the air. I could smell a lot of dust and ash but I have no idea from where it came. It was bad enough that I intentionally sped up in part three or we probably would have had 40+ minutes today. Hopefully everything will be better tomorrow.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 5

Yes, it was actually in the HEC, but you know what I mean.

Three gathered for a 32 minute set. Dave stayed after for a few sets of the staff and some review of the application of the bare-hands positions. He was especially fond of the transition from press to push. :-)

January 8, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 4

Three gathered for a 36 minute set today. We started out slow but gradually sped up sometime during part 2. Still, a very respectable time and a very pleasant set.

January 7, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 3

Two took refuge from the powder-snow this morning and availed themselves of the opportunity to practice. Charlie and I worked on flow today without reference to breathing. It took about 10 minutes to complete all three parts of the form. Since time remained, we then worked on some push-hands.

January 6, 2010

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 2

Four gathered for a 38 minute form. After the first three or four frames, it felt great. I was a bit off, but once I got started, things got better. Hopefully Nancy will return tomorrow.

T'ai Chi at the Allen Center - 2010 Day 1

The standard five gathered for the first time in the new (Western) year. We really are back in the Allen Center, now, though I'm going to have to see what's going on with the weekends here shortly. We started the new year with a very pleasant 40 minute set. It felt good, if mildly taxing. I practiced even less over this break than the last.
